Lajares, Fuerteventura. A traditional village reconverted into a surf camp
The village
Lajares is surrounded by volcanoes and vast lava flows, making the landscape around the village very deserted. However, you will find a welcoming vibe as people from all over the world pick this traditional village as their base camp for their stay in Fuerteventura.

In the village, locals mix with surfers from all over the world creating a unique atmosphere that is perfect combination of tradition and modernity.
The reason why so many surfers pick it as a base camp is that it conveniently located equidistantly from El Cotillo and Corralejo, allowing surfers to get to the beach in a short 15 min drive depending on where the waves are better.
The village is very laid back and you will not only find a supermarket and a chapel but also plenty of interesting artisan shops, restaurants and some very unique windmills.

La Panateca, our favourite place for breakfast in Lajares, Fuerteventura
If you are only passing by we strongly recommend you stop at least for a coffee or breakfast.
We went to La Paneteca, a bakery that specialises in organic breads and coffee. Their homemade breads are absolutely delicious and we had some pretty epic avocado and serrano ham toasts.
We have fallen in love with “Surfscape Fuerteventura”, a concept guest house that not only offers accommodation but also organises yoga retreats, surf camps and co-working spaces.
The place features incredible volcano views and it has a pool, a restaurant and a bar.
All the rooms are equipped with wifi, private bathroom, TV, air conditioning and a lovely balcony.
