If there is one place that will come up repeatedly if you ask the locals for recommendations on where to eat it will be La Vaca Azul, Fuerteventura, the most famous of the restaurants in El Cotillo.

La Vaca Azul Fuerteventura
The restaurant is an institution in the island of Fuerteventura, and, as a matter of fact, we ended up visiting more than once during our time in the island.
The location itself is already pretty spectacular, as many of their tables enjoy a lovely ocean view. They have various terraces, but if you have the option, we recommend that you ask for a table on the top one.
Nearby you will also find the stunning beach of La Concha.

Their cuisine is based mostly on fresh fish and seafood – you will actually see people cleaning the catch of the day in the old port just in front the restaurant – but they also offer paellas, salad and meats.
Bookings at Vaca Azul, Fuerteventura
Regardless the day of the week and how big the place is, it tends to always be full. Booking is strongly recommended, you can call or pop by to make your booking.
We were lucky enough to get a table once without a booking, but it was on a weekday and we had to wait for about 30 minutes. As we could get an ice cold beer at the bar, the waiting wasn’t bad at all.
Generally speaking, the vibe of the island is relaxed and casual, and even though the food they serve is of an amazing quality, the service is friendly and casual. Do not expect the royal treatment in La Vaca Azul.
Our favourite dishes
As we visited La Vaca Azul a couple of times we got to try quite few things from the menu and everything was great. Our favourite dishes were the octopus with mojo verde sauce, the langostines, and, above all, the Vaca Azul tartar. That was absolutely delicious.
The food is honest, delicious and as fresh as it gets. The deserts were the perfect finale, and we were invited to a complementary shot of Ron Miel, a local liquor.
A cold beer in hand, some delicious seafood tapas on the table, and the sun over the ocean… we could not ask for more.
If you visit the island of Fuerteventura, stopping for lunch in la Vaca Azul is a must.
Where to stay in El Cotillo?
If you are looking for a hotel on a budget El Hotelito del Cotillo is a riad-inspired boutique hotel that offers great value for money in the village, and people love it. They have a lovely terrace with a hot tub for guest to enjoy. A double room usually goes for 75€ per night.
If you are looking for somewhere a bit more homey this 2 bedroom apartment has everything you will need for your stay including an outdoor barbecue and a terrace with some mind blowing ocean views.
