Bodegas Lupanda is a family winery and the place we went for a wine tasting in Requena. All the wines they produce come from their own vineyards just outside the village and the business is ran by a family of four, all of them wine experts.
When they purchased their family home in the village and started with the renovations they literally found a treasure in the basement: A wine cellar from the 18th century in a cave underneath the house.

Their wine tastings are unlike anything else we have done so far. They welcome you to their family house and take you to the kitchen, where right by the fire one of the silbings, wine experts, will share with you their family history and their passion for wine.
Their wines are delicious and their pours very generous so we will strongly recommend you get the package with almuerzo, aka an assortment of local cured meats and cheeses to go with the wines.
As a part of the experience they will take you to visit the cave that once held a wine cellar and that they still use to today to produce their wines.
We paid 15€ per person for this experience, the wine tasting and the food. You need to book in advance and they do speak English upon request, just check with them when you are booking it, you can contact them via Whatsapp.
How to get to Requena from Valencia to visit Bodegas Lupanda
The best part is that you do not have to drive to get to Requena from Valencia.
There are trains running from the main train station in Valencia (Valencia Nord) to Requena. The train is called Cercanias and the line is C3.
There are seven trains per day and it takes around 1h and 30 minutes to get to Requena. You have to purchase the ticket on the train station. They cost around 12€ for a return.
You can reach Bodegas Lupanda walking from the station, it will take you less than 10 minutes.
Where to stay in Requena for a wine tasting?
If you are looking for a special stay this boutique hotel with its own wine cave bellow the property is located in the historical city center and it is tastefully decorated.
Prices start at 90€ per night with breakfast.
If you would rather not spend much in accommodation this very functional studio apartment (Varone) is also located in the city center, it has a kitchen.

Other bodegas and wineries to visit in Requena
Requena is a beautiful village with a rich history and it is worth spending a couple of days. We loved seeing Bodegas Lupanda as the cave was pretty unique but apart from this wine tasting experience you can also visit vineyards outside the village.
