The story of the Marques de Riscal bodega designed by Frank Gehry
The winery (or “bodega”) is actually called Marques de Riscal. It was born in 1858 and it is located in the Basque Country, in an area called “Rioja Alavesa”. Theirs was the first Rioja wine to ever be bottled.
But not only do they have the honour of being the first Rioja, they have also transitioned to modern times in the most epic way.
In 2006, they transformed their family winery into the “City of Wine” to offer visitors an experience in their premises they will not forget.
The most iconic part of it is the luxury hotel designed by the architect Frank O. Gehry, who is also the mastermind behind the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, surely you can see the resemblance!
