Juzcar, or as it is known, the Smurf Village is one of the most peculiar places in Spain. Discover everything you need to know for your visit to the weirdest place in Andalusia.
It was once a typical southern Spanish village full of white-washed houses but in 2011 it became very popular when Sony Pictures selected it to promote the movie The Smurfs.
As a part of the promotion every single building in the village was painted blue: houses, the Church, the Town Hall.. even the cemetery!
Inhabitants decided to keep it blue and the place is colloquially known as the Smurf village. Only colloquially as due to copyright issues the official name is Blue Village.
How to get to Juzcar, the Smurf Village in Spain
It is located about 1 hour drive from Marbella or 2 hours from the city of Malaga.
If you drive we recommend that visitors continue along the MA7303 until they arrive at the village, avoiding the roads “Calle Los Riscos” and “Calle Solete”, because these side roads are very steep and narrow.
There are buses from the nearby village of Ronda, however, the service only works some days of the week.
Local tips for your visit
You will find artisans in the village, most making espardrilles.
The most popular food specialties are migas (bread crumbs with toppings), soups and rabbits.
The most popular local drink is Mosto, a very young wine elaborated that only takes around 40 days to make.
