If you have your own car you can drive to Avila from Madrid in about an hour and 15 minutes. Google maps will very easily show the quickest way but be aware there are tolls that costs around 10€. You can skip it but it will add half an hour to your trip.
We will only recommend driving if you are planning to stop in other places, as the public transport are almost as fast and cheaper than driving.
